Unit 4 - A collaborative activity - Recipe swap

The title of my project is What's on the menu? One of  the tasks for students is to create the recipe for one of their national dishes and share it with their partners.  They work in national groups of 5. Each group compiles its own cookbook containing the recipes from all the participating countries.

Objectives:

  • to develop speaking/writing and reading/listening skills
  • to practise giving instructions and using definite /indefinite articles
  • to use ICT tools effectively
  • to promote diversity and tolerance towards other cultures

Work process:

1 Students brainstorm about their national dishes and agree on which one to share with the other groups. They collect useful vocabulary for the task and translate the instructions into English. Before shooting the video, there must be some pronunciation practice / rehearsal.

2 Students create the recipes by recording themselves  making the dish. They can use their handheld devices. The video films can be created on Youtube, Movie maker or Flixpress.

3 The final products, the video films are shared on Padlet. Each team gives feedback on their partners' work. Evaluation rubric will be supplied by teachers (focus on  creativity, language use, pronunciation, etc.)

4 Each national team compiles its own cookbook using the information on ingredients and instructions from the videos. They can make an ebook (Myebook) or a presentation (Photopeach, Sway).

5 Finally, students prepare the meals and present them at a food show at their school.

At this stage of the project, teachers communicate on Twinspace.
